Valuable 1930′s Horror Movie Posters
For most horror movie posters collectors, indeed for movie poster collectors in general, the question of whether or not a particular poster is valuable or not can be a subject of hope, spirit and annoyance.
The ability to scare people has been a lucrative and successful part of cinema since its beginning when a silent steam train appeared on screen careering towards a shocked audience.
Sometimes it comes from an original script so well written that the film proceeds to scare people while still being recognised for its quality. Other times it is the special effects which truly allow the filmmaker to encapsulate whatever feeling he hopes to have the audience feel. And sometimes a horror movie has none of the above but has itself a terrifying and brutal monster or villain which serves this purpose.
Films like Dracula and Frankenstein have gone down in history as two of the most popular, endearing and frightening films to come out of Hollywood. Being released in the youth of cinema in the 1930′s, these two films bowled the public over. These films made millions in their day and continuing to this day are their sequels, remakes and spin offs..
But on top of the ability to frighten moviegoers, horror movie posters strike such a chord with audiences that they become a symbol of social status, awe, reminiscence and wealth. From this many people began collecting their favourite posters and despite times when the posters and films from certain eras look dated and cheap, they always come surging back into popularity. You only need to look at the styles of the 1970’s to see that many of the classic movie posters from this time are now valuable.
Time then obviously plays an important role in valuation. This is because movie posters were not produced en masse during the pre war period of the 1930′s as they are today. Many original posters, like Dracula and Frankenstein, were lost due to the onset of wars, depression and time with only a small number remaining. These horror movie posters are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
