Death Magnetic
Production
writing process
Metallica singer James Hetfield revealed that the band played new material during the sessions recording, but there was no mention of plans for a ninth studio album at that time. Select the music jam sessions can be used on the album, as Ulrich said: "We really hope to sift through some of these items on our return to the studio in January." In this note, in October 2004, the band had collected almost 50 hours of pre-set lock, with hundreds of riffs, progressions and bass lines agree. On September 30, June 2004, Launch Radio revealed Hetfield an interview with the group hopes the study again in the spring of 2005 to begin recording their ninth studio album for Warner Bros. Records.
On March 10 2006, reported that the group intended to use the six months to write material for the album, besides the two previous months had been spending writing music. Lars Ulrich also stated that the group was much better in the studio than it did during recording of St. Anger. On April 6, Lars Ulrich revealed that the band had composed "six-seven" songs, (except for the voice) record since its findings bands riff during the pre-series Mad anger in the World Tour. He said that at this point, the new group is reminiscent hardware "old school" Metallica works, and certainly did not feel like a St. Anger "second party.
On May 20, 2006, Kirk Hammett revealed that the group had 15 songs written and were writing an average of two to three songs weeks. [Edit] James Hetfield also praised producer Rick Rubin for his style to give the band their own freedom and keeping a minimum pressure, despite the sessions becoming short sometimes blurred. On May 27, Metallica updated their website with a video with the album information. Lars Ulrich, who directed the video, said of the new Album:
If you're in the studio, everyone assumes you're recording or making a record. The last time there was no real separation between the process writing and recording process. With St. Anger person before a pre-recorded material or ideas, it was just the place to be in the moment. So this time we just what we did in all the other albums, we first write, we are currently in the studio. The only difference is that we are writing to register. So I wrote here at the headquarters because this is our home, we wrote in the study.
registration process
Three studies have been used to produce the album, Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California, Shangri La Studios in Malibu, California and HQ in San Rafael, California. On January 1, 2007, Lars Ulrich said in an interview with Revolver that group would be the album of the same design so they have their albums before working with former producer Bob Rock, who sat down to write a select number of songs then enter the studio record. He also quoted current producer Rick Rubin in Rubin saying he did not want to start the registration process until all songs going to the registration of almost 100 percent as possible.
On March 5, Ulrich revealed that the group had reduced a potential 25 of 14 songs, and start recording 14 songs next week [ref. Must] also extends the style of Rick Rubin production, saying:
Rick is a big deal of having all these songs completely embedded in our bodies and basically next Monday, on D-Day, just go and run. So let the creative process was recorded then be in and basically just record a bunch of songs we know into the head down and not spend too much of their energy in the recording studio and capacity to think and analyze and do all this. His whole analogy, the registration process becomes more like a concert just go play and leave all the thinking at the door.
On 14 March, the official website of the band issued a statement: "Metallica left the comfort of the seat this week to fall in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles to begin recording the original album sessions. This is the first time that have occurred outside the Bay Area since spent time in one-on-One recording studio Black Album 90 and 91. "This was confirmed July 24, 2008 (24/07/2008) on Mission: Metallica, including a video showing area Entering the Sound crew City Studios of Nirvana fame.
On June 4, bassist Robert Trujillo revealed that only certain portions of the two new songs debuted in Berlin and Tokyo, respectively, are featured on the album. The group hopes to complete the album in October or November, when the album mix. He predicted that the album will be in February 2008. He also revealed that they work songs are quite long.
On February 2, 2008, according Sterlingsound.com it was discovered that Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound Studios be the domain of the new record. [Citation needed] According to Blabbermouth.net and other sources, Greg Fidelman, who had served as a sound engineer, also has chosen to mix the album.
Ulrich has confirmed May 15, 2008 that Metallica recorded 11 songs for Death Magnetic, but only 10 appeared on the album because to the limitations of the physical environment. XI The song, entitled "Shine", a song Hetfield "revolves around a Layne Staley type, rock & roll martyr magnetised by death. "
Several new songs from Death Magnetic, including the aforementioned "Shine" but "To Hell and Back" and "Game" had been deleted from the registry, but is rumored to be released as B-sides or on the next album. The titles have been confirmed by Hammett and Ulrich in the video MetOnTour of December 20, 2008.
Album Title
The guitarist Kirk Hammett has also played an important role in inspiring the title, when brought a photograph of the deceased, Alice in Chains Layne Staley members to the workshop where Metallica has been recording. "This picture has been there for a long time," Hammett said, "I think there psyche James. Wondering why someone with so much talent not choose this path, Hetfield started writing a song based on their Question (unreleased song "Shine").
On July 16, 2008, Hetfield commented on the album's title:
Death Magnetic, at least the title, for me started as a kind of tribute to those who have fallen in our business, like Layne Staley and a lot of people who have died, mostly rock and martyrs roll. And then kind of went from there, think about the death of people are attracted by it, and only as a magnet, and others are afraid of him and thrust. Also the concept that we all die is sometimes spoken long time and never told anyone put it on the big white elephant in the room. But we all have to face at some time.
The title refers to the song "My Apocalypse." According to Hammett, another title in mind for the album was "Songs of suicide and forgiveness.
Release
In January 2008, made a statement Stereo warning that the album was delayed until September 2008 but was quickly denied by the direction of a Metallica album, with no definite release date can not be "delayed." [Citation needed] The album, which was completed August 10, 2008, was released September 12, 2008 and published in a variety of different packages.
On 2 September, the French record company began Store to sell copies of Death Magnetic nearly two weeks before his scheduled release date for the world, which resulted in the album are available to the client early peer-to-peer. [Citation needed] This has caused the tape dispenser UK Vertigo Records, the album officially released two days before the scheduled date, September 10. It is currently unconfirmed as Metallica and Warner Bros. have any action against the seller, if a drummer Lars Ulrich, who was questioned about the leak in a radio station in San Francisco said:
We are ten days after departure. I mean, from here, we're gold. If this leaks the whole world today or tomorrow, happy days. The happy days. Trust me. Ten days and has not identified, fell from the truck yet? Everyone is happy. We are in 2008 and is part of the road these days, so it is very good. We're happy.
He later told U.S. Today
By 2008 standards, is a victory. If you had told me six months ago that our record could not lose up to 10 days, I signed for him. We have made a great record, and people seem to be descended from him more than expected.
On September 15, 2008, a reviewer for the Swedish daily Sydsvenskan preferred admitted illegal download an official version of Death Magnetic regular maintenance has been duly canceled by Universal Music Sweden. Its president Per Sundin said:
The reviewer refers to a BitTorrent where someone has altered the original songs. Examiner explains exactly where to go to download the file that totally infringes copyright. It is not just an illegal file, but a modified file. The reviewer also writes that this is how the album should have sounded. Sharing music files is illegal. Period. There is nothing to discuss. The fact that it has Sydsvenskan a writer who has downloaded music illegally and then makes mention of an illegal site in his opinion, is totally unacceptable to us.

Reception
In a interview in 2007 with the Rolling Stones, Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum described his impressions of the unfinished songs:
Lars is a good friend to me. I played San Francisco demos, and I turned and looked at me and said, 'Master that shit and put it out. "It's ridiculous. The demos were sick. Eight songs minutes, all these tempo changes, crazy fast. It's like, 'Dude, do not get slower when you get older, but do not get faster!? How to play this in alive? And then me and Lars were partying all night, and had to go into the studio the next day and so stupid like nine or ten minute song, and I laughed at him because I played the demo of it, and was [sings really fast drum] part, so fast. I called him and told him: "Friend, how are you feeling? Was like, 'Dude, I'm hurt. "They reduce everything to tape, Pro Tools no fuckin 'live, do not click.
The first single, "The day that never comes" has been described as the worst song on the album [edit] and is said to remind Grammy Breakthrough epic 1990 single "One"; [edit] Rock Sound also has been compared to the likes of Thin Lizzy. The group has abandoned the approach alone without being followed in St. Anger, the return to a regime of more complex layers, such as those normally is the fourth album the group … And Justice for All.
Death Magnetic has been hailed by fans and critics as a return to Metallica, St. Anger widely criticized. Thrash Hits was one of the first websites, and the comment Stay on Death Magnetic, which suggests "It's a big improvement on 2003 album St. Anger." Metal Hammer has noted the sharp riffs Death Magnetic "and" rebound slots unusual "and compares the group sound throughout these six tracks from other bands, like Slayer, Led Zeppelin and even Rage Against the Machine. Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has praised the album and say "Death Magnetic is hands down the best album Metallica 20. This is the CD I've waited for them to do since then and Justice for All. And thumbs up to make the first real Metallica 20 years contributed to "Living to die. "Welcome, boys."
While Metallica was the first leg of his 2008 tour in Europe, one third of Q Prime Management demanded that the impressions the media and blogs to be taken for reasons not defined. However, the notification to their return to the United States, the group was angered by the demands its leadership, and drummer Lars Ulrich corrected this problem by posting as many links as Metallica could find on their official website, with apologies.
Reviews for the album were fairly positive. Allmusic reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave the album 4 out of 5, indicating that the disc is like "hearing Metallica that way. Other positive reviews from publications such as The Guardian, who say that the album is "the strongest material the band have written in 20 years," , uncut, stating that "like all the best hard rock albums, suspend their disbelief, demands your attention and connects directly to your inner teenager. Critical production
As shown in this wave, the CD release of Death Magnetic (above) is much more compressed than the downloadable version of Guitar Hero (below).
The album has been criticized for having compromised sound quality, thanks to a compressed dynamic range, which leads to saturation and distortion. Sean Michaels of The Guardian explained that "the sound problems are the result of the Loudness War" an effort industry continues to make recordings as loud as possible. An article in Rolling Stone Rick Rubin said it was "monitoring the mixtures in Los Angeles Although the band is in Europe, headlining shows "and communicated with him by conference calls. Fans have noted that these problems are not sound present in the Guitar Hero version of the album, where songs are present separately because the game mechanics and Rolling Stone MusicRadar price controls engineer Ted Jensen album in which he states that "the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived" for the control and cites a petition by fans to remix or re-create the album. The petition has gained over 21,000 votes from 26 November 2009.
Rubin and Metallica had initially refused to comment on the subject, while the band's co-manager Cliff Burnstein stated that the applicants were in the minority and that the response to the album had been otherwise "massively positive. "Lars Ulrich confirmed later in an interview with Blender, a true creative control over the album's production has been transferred to Rubin, but stressed also pleased with the final product.
