Bubble tea has a meaning in Asian cultures?

Bubble tea is a tea beverage that originated in Taiwan [1] in the 1980s. The term "bubble" refers to the tapioca balls in the drink. These gum tapioca, or "pearls" are consumed with the drink a wide range of straw (picture). Bubble tea is very popular in Asia, Europe and Canada. Only recently has begun to gain popularity the United States. Bubble tea is divided generally into two types: fruit-flavored tea, tea and milk. Milk teas may use dairy or non-dairy creamers. Bubble tea is especially popular in many parts of East Asia, including Taiwan, China (including Hong Kong and Macao), South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei. Bubble tea a mixture of hot tea or sweet, milky ice, and often other flavorings. The distinctive characteristics of bubble tea are black rubber balls of tapioca (or, more commonly in Asia, yam starch), called "pearls" or "boba" or balls that sit on the bottom of the cup. At first the bright versions with a hint of flavor peaches and plums have begun to appear, then the fruit flavors were added until the tea was totally eliminated in favor of real fruit. Today you can find shops entirely devoted to bubble tea, similar to juice bars of the 1990s.
